How to Choose the Right Gymnastics Class for Your Child

Choosing a gymnastics class can feel overwhelming, especially if your child is brand new to the sport. The good news is that the right class usually comes down to just a few things: your child’s age, experience level, interests, and schedule.

At Dana Mannix Gymnastics Center, our goal is to place children in a class where they feel comfortable, challenged, and successful.

For younger children, age is often the best place to start. Preschool gymnastics focuses on body awareness, coordination, listening skills, and learning how to safely move through the gym. As children get older, classes become more skill-focused and begin building strength, flexibility, and gymnastics technique.

Experience matters too. A child who has never taken gymnastics before will usually be happiest in a beginner-level class, even if they are naturally athletic. This gives them time to learn foundational skills and become comfortable with equipment and class routines.

It is also worth considering what your child enjoys most. Some children love traditional gymnastics events, while others are drawn to tumbling, trampoline, or obstacle-based programs such as Ninja. The best program is often the one your child is excited to attend each week.

Finally, choose a schedule your family can realistically maintain. Consistency is one of the most important parts of skill development, so a class that fits comfortably into your week is often a better choice than one that creates stress.

Not sure where to start? Our staff is happy to help families find a class that fits their child’s age, experience, and goals.
